Sleeper 2467 “Silver Prairie”
This car began life in 1952 at the Budd Company in Philadelphia, PA as 10 Roomette-6 Double Bedroom Sleeper 435 "Silver Prairie." Although owned by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, this car was assigned to the transcontinental California Zephyr between Chicago and Oakland, CA, jointly operated by the Burlington Route, Denver & Rio Grande Western, and the Western Pacific. Passing into Amtrak ownership in 1971, the renumbered 2662 would be equipped with Head End Power (HEP) and handicap accessibility as part of the company’s heritage fleet. As newer sleeping cars came online, the renumbered 2467 would be retired by 2001, and held for auction at the company shops in Beech Grove, IN that year. TCRM was the highest bidder, and moved the car here in 2002.
