Burlington Northern 9912
Built in December 1955 for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. Number 9987B was part of the last order of E9A units from EMD for CB&Q. Operating in CB&Q’s passenger service and as part of their Zephyr operations. In 1970 CB&Q merged with 3 other companies forming Burlington Northern. It became BN 9982 on March 2, 1970, was sold to the West Suburban Mass Transit District on August 18, 1972 and leased back to the BN. During October 1973 it was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen and returned as E9AM 9912, named, "Village of Brookfield,” and pulled commuter trains for the BN under contract with the RTA until retired in July 1992, It was purchased by the Nashville & Eastern for a proposed commuter operation , but was replaced by an EMD F40 before operations commenced.
