Crew Dormitory Car 2503 “Pine Hill”

This car began life in 1953 at the Budd Company in Philadelphia, PA as Santa Fe Railway 10-6 Sleeper 1632 "Pine Hill." Originally equipped with 10 Roomettes and 6 Double Bedrooms, this car served mostly on the railroad’s flagship name train Super Chief between Chicago and Los Angeles. Passing into Amtrak ownership in 1971, the renumbered 2733 would be equipped with Head End Power (HEP) seven years later. As newer sleeping cars came online, the renumbered 2996 would be reconfigured into a crew-dorm lounge car in 1997, as a place of rest for Amtrak’s operating staff on east coast long distance trains. The 2503 would serve until 2007, sitting in storage at the company shops in Beech Grove, IN until held in auction in 2018. A TCRM member made a successful bid, and 2503 was delivered to us in March 2020.
