NERR 9400
The unabated queen of our fleet sports a glass dome atop its roof! This Dome-Coach car was first on the Northern Pacific Railroad’s North Coast Limited, a transcontinental streamliner between Chicago, IL and Seattle, WA. Resplendent in a striking two-tone green paint scheme, car no. 551 had twenty four seats inside the glass dome for passengers to admire the Rocky Mountains in Montana, and the Cascades in Washington State. When the country’s passenger service was nationalized with Amtrak, the car was renumbered to 9478, and later 9400, all while having its dome seats reduced to twenty to allow for seats to be turned. Soon made redundant by newer equipment, a private individual purchased the car from Amtrak at auction, and had it brought to TCRM in 1996. Today, this car shows passengers rare views of the Cumberland Plateau when traveling east of Watertown, TN.
This car is available for First Class Seating on its lower level, and is our only car to feature Dome Seating.
